Lucie & Caolan, young talents for music workshops in Devon

Lucie and Caolan will be running a series of music workshops for the students of the AEL course in Dartington from 21st June to 5th July. These will involve getting the students singing and playing instruments! We will learn folk songs from Scotland and Ireland and would also love to learn songs from your own countries.

This activity will involve skill-sharing, gaining confidence in performing and improving English through song! Lucie would also love to encourage some composition in the course- she will help to draw out ideas from the students and get them creating, which could also involve the students writing lyrics in English.

At the end of the course we will put on a presentation/concert for each other, playing and singing what we have learnt.

Lucie is a 19 year old composer and singer-songwriter from Scotland. She has performed in many prestigious London venues such as The Southbank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, St Martin in the fields and the Saatchi Gallery.

Lucie has recently been organising musical projects abroad in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Iceland and the USA, giving workshops to young children from poor backgrounds and performing alongside other musicians. Lucie has recently received JCI’s Ten Outstanding Young People in the UK’s Award for her Outreach projects with others and song writing.

Caolan, 19 year old, loves playing harp since his early years and is now attending a four-year programme at the Guildhall School of Music, one of the world’s leading conservatoires and drama schools.

He is born in Devon where he attended the South Devon Steiner School in Dartington, before being awarded a scholarship for the Purcell School in 2010.

As a young solist, he has won several harp competitions, including First Prize for three consecutive years in the harp class of the Devon Performing A&B Festival, and most recently Winner of the 2013 Master London Harp Competition.

Caolan’s other interests are table tennis and acting. He was captain of the Brixham Table Tennis Team playing in the South Devon League, and last year played the leading role in a production of the Government Inspector” at the Purcell School.

Lucie and Caolan are awaiting your active sharing:

  • select a folk song from your country or city, then
  • post your favourite song to Lucie and Caolan or to AEL as soon as you can!

Lucie and Caolan are looking forward to working with you this summer!
